Already seeing some really dodgy arguments about what happened yesterday. 1) These were a few bad apples & nothing to do with the Republican Party. No. They were directly incited by Donald Trump and 45 per cent of Republican supporters back them.
2) This was a "protest". No. Congress was meeting to certify that Biden had won the election. They were explicitly trying to stop that, acting on directions from Donald Trump. It was a direct attack on the democratic process. The only thing they were protesting was democracy.
3) It's hypocritical to condemn this but support BLM. No. The BLM movement is based on the measurable, objective, undeniable fact that black Americans experience injustice at a much higher level than white Americans. And BLM protestors have never attempted to stage a coup.
It's really vital that no-one even gets close to both siding this. Yesterday we saw an attempt to overthrow democracy. That's it. There is no nuance here.
