Here’s why it’s different to me
citizens died inside the most sacred
institution.
Bc the
President emboldened his supporters to rise up....because 7 million more people voted against him. Legally voted. No rigging, but people truly against the current policies https://twitter.com/bissellbrittany/status/1347021574138961930

Bc the

This was from within. This wasn’t a martyr from a foreign country who doesn’t understand what it means to be free invading our borders to cause harm.
This was the blood of an
who was radicalized by other
people using lies & conspiracy theories on platforms created by
companies who refuse to stop the speed of hate bc of greed

This was an
dying on the day where we should be hopeful bc 7 million more people said this was all enough, & a day where the senate gained even more diversity just the night before, in a state previously part of the confederacy nonetheless. That is truly amazing

This was a day where an
died & it could have been stopped & prevented. Where were the current republicans leaders weeks ago? Why wait to today to condemn the lies about the election being stolen after the chaos ensues? Where were the harsh statements about him being unfit?

This was also different because we’ve never watched a terrorist die on TV while other terrorists around them where allowed to still run out in camera view causing destruction with no to little consequences.
The last year has brought a lot of destruction. There have been people who have looted & destroyed, but those were not the ones representing the movement for change. I can’t imagine what today was like for our African American citizens. I truly cannot.
When they have peacefully protested to be treated as equal as every other white person is, they have been arrested, beaten, & shamed. To watch so many people today disparage the sanctity of the
capitol & face so little consequences is something I cannot wrap my head around.

Yes, people looted & destroyed - but those were extremists who don’t represent the BLM movement. To those who say what happened yesterday are also extremists not part of the presidents party, you are blind.
I’m at the gym & all the POC people who are normally alive & ready to tackle the day at 4 am are not today, I can see it in their eyes, the despair, the defeat, & the disappointed. They are silent, with gentle waves instead of their normal shouts of good morning.
Yes, people lost their life around circumstances we don’t yet know. But to see it happen & compare the response to what we have seen in the last year for when POC protested their literal right to breathe without fear of harm is something I cannot stop thinking about.
So to me, today is different. I grieve for those who lost their lives bc they were
washed from within our house. But more so, I grieve for the people who turned out &
for change, bc every one of us always feared this would happen.

In grieve for the POC in this country. Witnessing the privilege they always knew existed be displayed on national
on the steps of the
capitol had to shake them to their core. I don’t even know the words to share with them bc nothing will make it better

I grieve for the teachers who have to go to work today & find The words to guide our students forward, to explain this, & to help control the tensions of students in the room whose parents support this view.
I grieve for any parent whose child is old enough to understand this. I grieve for our country bc I know I won’t see us come back from this in my lifetime. It will take a century to move past the harm that The last 4 yr has done.
And I finally grieve for the people who voted for this man & suddenly today have realized their mistake. But for the rest of his supporters who refuse to account accountability, you do not have my grief or my respect. You have just as much of my blame as he does.
