"Mayhem incited by Trump" (NYT) "The president incited the mob" (Liz Cheney). I've now listened to all 1 hr 11 min of Trump's Wed. Ellipse speech and I'll be damned if I can find any language inciting violence or mayhem. Maybe someone can point me to it. 1/
Trump says "[W]e're gonna walk down to the capitol and we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women" who support contesting the electoral votes, while not cheering senators who show "weakness." He tells the crowd to "peacefully and patriotically ..." 2/
"...make your voices heard." Doesn't sound violent! Later he says the crowd'll give "weak" GOP reps "the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country," presumably on the votes they've scheduled. All the language about "weakness" is directed at Congress. 3/
He's not telling the *crowd* not to show "weakness" (the impression left by NYT). The crowd doesn't sound very animated or violent. (The do chant "We Love You" at one point.) It's more likely they were bored to death by Trump's state-by-state recitation of voting irregularities4/
I hate Trump's destructive obsession with reversing the election (through strongarming, if necessary). His speech yesterday was arguably cracked, delusional. But he didn't incite the mob, at least not in what I heard. There may be ample grounds to impeach him, but not for that 5/
Here's the speech. You can decide for yourself
