i'm going to say it: if we had to stop tweeting about other things whenever something terrible happened somewhere in the world, we would never be able to focus on other things.
it's only when it's a us issue that suddenly people seem more concerned about those who don't tweet about the issue than about those who do. because EVERYONE should be paying attention to this issue only, right?
and you might say that it's not only a us issue but a worldwide one and that's true, but every us issue becomes a worldwide issue because of us policies. those issues are forced onto us non-usamericans.
and this is not to say people shouldn't care about issues that don't affect them. they should! people should care about other people!
but precisely because people should care about others, if you've never given a shit about natural disasters, riots, fascist governments, bombings, etc in other parts of the wold? if you've never cared about people in the lebanon? or latam?
if you've never cared about the philippines and the terror bill? or coastal gaslink and the wet'suwet'en? you have no right to cancel your italian mutual because she posted a pic of her cat.
