The notion that the ‘protestors’ (read: terrorists) are ‘hillbillies’ who are uneducated is not only classist it is also incorrect. These terrorists have access to finances to fly across the country with their weapons and inflated egos and storm the buildings holding elected reps
It’s easier to declare them as ‘other’ so as not to offend middle class sensibilities but these are your neighbours, your peers. This is what happens when ‘low level’ racism, sexism, transphobia, Islamophobia goes unchecked
Trump didn’t cause this - he acted as a lens through which this energy could be focused but this has always been there. The prejudice, discrimination and violence is being intensified on chat rooms and forums and will surface again
And the notion from us Brits that ‘America is such a messed up country’ is twisted if you think we’re nothing alike. The Conservatives are fostering the same spirit and it’s only a matter of time til the same mass uprising happens here in our own racist island
A Labour MP was murdered by a right wing terrorist and you think we’re nothing alike? There’s far too much ‘them and us’ and ‘thank God we have nothing like Trump’. We absolutely do and he looks like Boris Johnson and all the rest of them
