It’s over. Biden and Harris are confirmed and will be inaugurated Jan 20.

But there must be reckonings, and there must be accountability, or democracy has not won.

We are nowhere near out of the woods. 65% of the House GOP caucus voted to overturn the fucking election.

But this chapter has ended, and democracy squeaked through. That’s all we got right now. It’s still in danger, though, and if you think it isn’t I have some history for you.

I spent much of last year writing about that history and warning about this violence in American politics. My first draft of this piece ended on “There would be civil war.”

My editor wanted it brought back to today, which wasn’t hard to do.
