Given that screens are going to be so central to everyone's lives for the forseeable - what if CBBC, Netflix etc set subtitles as default on eg Peppa Pig so that ...
... the link between written and spoken (and written word and pleasure) was made early and painlessly?
When we lived abroad subtitles really helped us learn the language without having to try too hard.
