others are speculating, some don't know what to do with it and some develop or build country homes. Yesterday I visited such a land owner where I consulted on an idea of what one can do with such land & would like to share it with you. Cont... #SustainableForestry #Land #Africa
There are so many reforestation opportunities in sustainable forestry where specific forests are for wood products. Many countries in the west & some in Africa have adopted to this e.g Tanzania #SustainableForestry @AfDB_Group @UNEP @SafaricomFDN @KeEquityBank @AbsaKenya @1t_org
In Kenya one of the big 4 agenda's is on Affordable housing. Affordable housing cannot function without timber for construction. If we do not start to grow trees for timber our work will be useless in the conservation of forests because... #SustainableForestry #Logging #Forests
where will the people get their wood. Logging will continue & even if the logging doesn't happen in Kenya it will happen somewhere else. We need to do wood lots where we can get charcoal sustainably. #SustainableForestry #Charcoal #Woodlots https://twitter.com/cookswelljikos/status/1322549196273127425?s=20
It's a fact that a majority of Kenyans still rely on firewood, charcoal the rest use electricity & gas. The idle land could be greatly useful if over time you planted fast growing trees that could generate timber for the industry. #SustainableForestry https://twitter.com/cookswelljikos/status/1336729170697662465?s=20
An alternative could be to grow indigenous trees for the honey /medicinal purposes or fruit trees. Trees take time to grow therefore you need patience & water. You may know someone or have such land yourself. Feel free to share

In Kenya we have to start thinking on Longterm Investments & Land as economic driver. Long have we been frustrated by tea, coffee, maize & sugar. E.g The value of Canadian forest product exports is about $33 billion (2019). https://www.sfmcanada.org/en/ #SustainableForestry
