Taiwan is not a tool for the US to use to try to punish China for what happens in Hong Kong.

If Pompeo actually cared about Taiwan (and I highly suspect he does not) he would not build US-Taiwan relations based off retaliatory measures in which neither Taiwan nor the US gain anything of substance other than a short feeling of "take that China!" Which again, does nothing.

I know it's hard to justify to people in Taiwan why this type of visit is not actually helpful to Taiwan when they are constantly neglected and any diplomatic visit should be a good visit, but please see how Taiwan is being used, not helped, and that difference is critical.
