“The masterpiece which becomes a new genre itself will be called Cowboy Bepop”

What is the defining criteria of a masterpiece?
Is it the OST or the amazing animation?
Maybe it's the development of the cast involved?
Maybe all of the above?
Moving forward or letting the weight of the past drag you down.
Being able to find where you belong once you finally let that weight go.
"You're gonna carry that weight."
or
Accepting your fate.
Finding peace in death and finally being free of regret. Choosing to find out if you-
-are really alive, refusing to have regrets, & to leave the dream behind.

Spike's dream was reality. Running away from his past. Even though he enjoyed the Bepop more than anyone else, he had a weight he could not let go of.

While Jet, Faye, & Ed were finally able to move for-
-ward, Spike could not. He only saw the past in one eye and the present in the other.

But at the end, he found his peace. His star may have faded, but it ended with a smile on his face as this was his attempt to finally embrace his own life.

With a perfectly well-rounded cast-
-dynamic, there is not a single moment of this series that was not enjoyable. Everyone added to the series in their own way.

The OST was arguably one of the best and most unique that I've ever heard. And not just the OP or ED; yes, I mean the entire OST.

With fluid animation f-
-or its time, it was always something that kept you entertained watching Spikes movements flow like water

The direction of this series may have been episodic, but there was a consistent map of hints about everyone's past being dropped. A story within the craziness in a monster-
-of-the-week type series.

With all of these factors colluding to create one work of fiction, I can without a doubt say that this was a masterpiece.

See ya later, Space Cowboy...
Also, I know this is cliche these days, but the subtle hint from the very beginning of the series by how often they smoke is really interesting to me because it really shows the pent up stress they'd all built up from their frustrations about their past.

With Ed a non-smoker,
Jet smoking the least, Faye smoking somewhere in the middle, and Spike smoking more than anyone else.
