Besides the obvious, one problem with the Trump/Fascism analogy is that there’s probably no historical precedent to what’s happening now: a completely self-generated political crisis in the world’s oldest bourgeois democracy.
It’s a crisis that predates COVID, and wasn’t caused by a major war, devastating military defeat, a Revolution, explosion of class conflict, or economic collapse.
It wasn’t provoked by conservative elites or mass anti democratic movements. It’s not a reaction to the left.

Instead it originated in the traditional institutions of electoral democracy and the party system, and then grew and mutated from there.
A totally endogenous crisis of bourgeois politics. Nothing like postwar Italy or Weimar Germany.
