10 Lessons I took from 1/06/21 and the violence in DC (Thread)

1) White people are not afraid of law enforcement. It is a privilege for one to not be afraid of law enforcement.
2) There were 15 arrests made today (so far) as per various news outlets whereas there were 14,000 arrests made during the George Floyd protests. Every system in this country evidences how it does not honor black life.
3) The presumption of guilt that comes with black skin and brown skin and the presumption of innocence that comes with white skin are of the many inequities/privileges produced by supremacy and built systemically into America.
4) There literally is video footage, audio recordings, and photographs of people breaking into, vandalizing, and stealing from the Capitol Building of the United States of America in Washington DC and less than 15 arrests were made today.
5)The number of times "We're better than this" and "this is not America" have been stated today and for so long likely indicate that we are not better than this. That this is what America is. The country will only heal when it acknowledges that it is broken in many ways.
6)The same goes for comparing today's violence in DC to other countries. A) Most of the world's problems stem from American/European decisions, policies, and entitlement - historically and contemporarily and B) White violence is an actual thing. Whether you want it to be or not.
7) Words and statements are not the same as an actual carrying out of an impeachment of Trump or any other elected. To bring forward consequences would require many to first be willing to challenge the systems that they draw privilege from as well.
8) Calls to move on from this have started to be raised. Don't listen to those people who are making those calls. That's just another way of saying that what happened today was bad, but not bad enough for us to be willing to break down a system that we benefit from.
9) Today shows us yet again how race and class determine who has and who has not in this country. All of this stems from anti-blackness and supremacy and pretending like it doesn't is just going to continue to make things worse.
10) We have the ability to overcome all of this and we will inshallah.
