Hawley is every single middle manager that everyone hated for being an unctuous, sycophantic opportunist who everyone also knew that because he's the right kind of white, was going to be the first to be promoted and so tolerated him out of fear and systemic certainty.
He's the one who fudges his numbers, who talks over women, who takes credit for others' works, whose entire team loathes him but suffers his attentions for the same reasons everyone else does. They are the upwards failures and children of privilege. They run the whole world.
He is the one who is given a "little money" to "play with" who starts a business with his buddies, promotes people without qualifications to be HR and accounting, takes his team to strip clubs, and then hires a PR firm to craft his apologies as all the other Hawleys rally to him.
He has a wife he cheats on with a girlfriend he beats. He has a one bedroom overlooking Central Park. He's Christian, of course, he was a Young Life leader. He started a Young Republicans club as a satellite to his debate team and he used to winter in Vail. We all know this guy.
Walk into any franchise business in the United States and ask them if their District Manager is Hawley. 30% of them will be. 80% of their Regional Directors will be. 100% of their Regional Vice Presidents on up will be. The higher you swim, the more sociopaths you encounter.
