What would I do? Going to require a thread.
1. The antitrust measures in the US are a good start. You need to break up the monopolies and address the anti-competitive landscape that facilitates a level of hubris that enables irresponsible + reckless governance. https://twitter.com/kkliman/status/1346957043840684034

2. Stop talking about hate in terms of free speech + start cracking down in relation to incitement of violence. Which means people need to take a stand, lay charges, or refuse access (in the case of libraries) so we can evolve legal precedents to contend with these new realities
3. Sanctions. I think political parties + governments need to suck it up + stop using platforms until these issues are addressed. Take a stand. Put a line in the sand and get the rest of corporate Canada to pick a side. Withdraw your partnership, and thereby your tacit approval.
4. Or they could go even further, as @profgalloway suggested when he was in Toronto, + have the backbone to ban a platforms outright. “You kick their asses out, you'll see how quickly they can move," he said. About 32 minutes in:
We cannot pretend we don't see the hate fomenting, and we cannot ignore the direct line to platforms that cultivate its spread. No more calls to be better, no more dismissing it as a few trolls. Recognize that people are being brainwashed + radicalized + address it at the source.
