American fascists generated powerful propaganda for their movement today. They will grow stronger. Our leaders have failed us in every way.

Today was a win for fascism invited and abetted by U.S. political leaders and police.

Their goal is to make a joke of democratic systems. That is what the costumes and photo shoots are about.

It all looks like a joke and some boyish fun, some sport — until the switch flips. And then it's the farthest thing possible from a joke.

They make it easy to laugh at and dismiss them. That is intentional.

Compelling our leaders to blow them off as not a real threat, to reconcile and move past like it never happened – that is the game.

It's happening before our eyes. We can't let them get to the switch.

Since 2016 a Jewish bell deep inside me has been ringing. The part of me that descended from a teenage girl, the one member of her family that made it to America and was not murdered by German fascists.

I have learned to trust that bell and it's clanging tonight.

I don't necessarily think most of our political leaders know what fascism is, or are aware that their actions aided it.

That doesn't make them less responsible. It is their job to understand power, history, and evil.

The police on the other hand. . . .
