Where is the "personal responsibility" we've so often heard Republicans prattle on about?
People like Hawley aided and abetted this president. They helped brain-poison the GOP base, lying to them about election conspiracies. They fomented this armed insurrection. Own it.
Seriously. For today's seditious acts, egged on by Trump + GOP leadership, Ted Cruz bizarrely blames Beto O'Rouke. Sarah Palin & Fox anchors blame Antifa. Republican survey respondents blame Joe Biden.
TAKE SOME DAMN RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE. https://twitter.com/crampell/status/1347008600150048768
They shrugged such comments off, saying of course Trump would concede gracefully if he lost https://www.wsj.com/articles/if-he-loses-trump-will-concede-gracefully-11604772109
Then things devolved further. As it became clearer that the base had bought into Trump's conspiracy theories, and believed the election had been "stolen," Republicans began not just ignoring the latest flames of crazy but fanning them.
GOP lawmakers were just asking questions! they claimed. There's so much distrust (that GOP politicians themselves had sown) that they *had* to investigate now! No matter that dozens of court cases about these "questions" had been thrown out. Including by Trump-appointed judges
Suddenly the most cynical faux-populist GOP lawmakers were competing over who could spin the craziest conspiracy theory. They cheered on the tinfoil hatters who might someday donate to their campaigns. Trump was raising $ off this grift; why not them too?
They aided and abetted the monster in the White House. They lied to their own voters, to get donations and position themselves for a 2024 run. They were arrogant enough to think they could control this unruly, paranoid base, which was demanding blood
And now they have the gall to blame Antifa, Democrats, Joe Biden?
Again: Take some damn responsibility for what you've done
What a GOP lawmaker tweeted in September, the day after Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power and literally said, on national TV, that there "won't be a transfer" of power.

In another poll, Republicans were more likely to blame "Democrats in Congress" or Biden for the siege of the Capitol yesterday than they were to blame Trump or "Republicans in Congress."
