When I worked on Capitol Hill in 1995/96, the Oklahoma City Bombing happened. That was when Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House was closed to traffic. Senate office Buildings and the Capitol increased security. People were pushed back from their Government.
Then 9/11 happened and the Government pushed people back even more. They built an underground visitors center for the Capitol Building. You used to be able to just walk in, but not anymore. Riots and fires near the White House in 2020 pushed back the people even further.
Today’s unjustified invasion of the Capitol will be answered with even more security and pushing people even further away. Think back to a time when people could just walk into the White House and ask for a meeting. Now, we are kept far, far away.
So, what is going on? It started way before Trump, although it has gotten worse. Obviously, today was a pinnacle of frustration and, again, totally wrong. But, what is going on? My belief is that it is a result of growth in government. Government is massive...totally massive.
It spends Trillions of dollars every year. Trillions. To be in control of that much money is massive power and it creates massive problems. People look at government as both savior and as the devil, and politicians play to both of these beliefs.
What I am saying is that when government gets this big, people think mob rule can change things and it often does. So, my solution to all of this is to shrink the size of government in a very big way.
My prediction is if that were to happen, we would quickly find out that all these security precautions would not be necessary. If government were not so big, people would not be so focused on it. Protests would diminish because there would be less to fight over.
