I've been trying to figure out why the Anderson Cooper comment actually pissed me off. I think it comes down to this . . . Cooper is implying that "rich" people don't do this stuff, except these are all people with lots of disposable income.
I live in the midwest, in Central Illinois. There are rich people here. They drive expensive pickup trucks, have big houses in the middle of nowhere, and have no problem buying guns. These aren't "poor slobs" doing this.
In fact, these motherfuckers are the ones that have a whole small town on their payroll because they own all or most of the local businesses, so they have whole communities kissing their asses and treating them like they are special.
They convince themselves they are "middle class," even though they have millions in the bank and they inherited their businesses from their families.
These are the fuckers that make their employees lives a living hell, because all of their businesses are arranged as "small businesses," so they don't have to provide the same benefits as bigger employers.
In the meantime, they own twenty fucking companies and they are only distinct enterprises through the magic of legal misdirection.
Also, some of these fuckers also have some of those small businesses in their wife's name, so they can qualify for opportunities, loans, and grants that are reserved for marginalized groups.
So, no, if these fuckers want to stay in a nice hotel or eat out at an expensive restaurant, they don't have any problem doing so. That was a Hyatt they were staying at, not a Holiday Inn. Fuck classist implications that "the rich" are above this shitty behavior.
