After being immersed in tonight’s disgraceful attack on democracy in DC it reminds us of one of the most spectacular achievements in modern Irish history & that was the peaceful handover of power from Civil War winners to losers in 1932 by W.T Cosgrave & Cumann na nGaedheal (1/4)

After founding the independent Irish Free State and setting up her institutions from 1922-1932, the Pro Treaty party lost the ‘32 general election to the slow learners in DeValera’s Fianna Fáil party. It was a bitter defeat to CnnG but it was an important victory for Irish..(2/4)

Democracy needs loyal & honest people for it to work, we have not seen that in the US in recent years. The sanctity of the ballot box & law and order are the cornerstone of a functional democratic nation, so I look forward to @JoeBiden’s inauguration so the healing can begin(4/4)
