Not the first time Mel has had to distance herself from violent people spouting crazed theories about conspiracies of traitorous Marxists and minorities, and she won’t be alone in the British press in having to do this. The pissy *how dare you blame me* stuff comes next.
Would be a shame if it turned out anyone was publisher of a magazine that had been promoting the guy’s horrible politics, his supporters’ wacky theories and defending his crazy and wildly reckless behaviour, wouldn’t it.
Always the same: 1) full-bore communist conspiracies to undermine civilisation itself to benefit minorities and foreigners, then 2) the occasional screeching halt to pretend the latest horrifying right wing extremist enormity is nothing to do with them, and then right back to 1).
I remember saying it was surely time for people like Mel to face pointed questions about why they were cited by name in the manifesto of a mass-murderer spouting their crazed theories about Marxist/Islamic conspiracies. That was ten years ago, and she hasn’t lost a gig since.
These people understand that if they make the right disapproving noises today, then they can go right back to denouncing imaginary cabals of treason and subversion tomorrow with no consequences at all for their behaviour. They’ve done this many, many times, and it always works.
