Was going to do this tomorrow but it was on my kind so I will tonight. (Thread pt. 1)
Hawley made a serious political miscalculation, and It was one I myself was convinced by. I thought that the Qanon/MAGA faction wasn't nearly crazy enough to pull a somewhat successful stunt like they did today, discrediting by association (fair or unfair), election skeptics. (2)
Although the calculation was always going to isolate moderates in favor of the MAGA crowd, the actions by the rioters will make the political implications of this spill out to far more people than it would originally. Normal everyday Americans now see him as somewhat liable (3)
This was a lapse in judgement many on the new right had. We thought we could throw away principle being a bit Machiavellian for a bit. integrity is more important. It's a shame one of the only times in his career he picked politics over integrity will stain him forever (4)
Like I said, I don't think blaming him for any of this is fair, but he will be associated with it because of the nature of politics. At the end of the day it was bc of a sentiment the new right had to try to appease the MAGA crowd. We can't do it. It's deeply irrational (5 - end)
