Twitter suspending Trump is probably the nail in the coffin for the site. Not because he doesn’t deserve to be suspended (or even banned) but the explicit acceptance that a sitting US President can cause serious harm merely by using your site is a pretty strong indictment on it.

I mean the same thing applies to social networks in Myanmar, India etc but as long as it was just brown countries FB/Twitter/Google could pretend it wasn’t real. Now they can’t avoid the fact they’ve created platforms that serve as a kind of hadron collider for dangerous bullshit

Of course Twitter’s motivation is much more about avoiding more serious regulation from a Dem Whitehouse / Congress rather than any sense of moral good. They want to prove their self-regulation policies work. No need to suspend Modi and the RSS because Dems don’t give a shit.
