Reports that @VP approved the National Guard deployment today are untrue, according to a senior defense official. Acting SecDef Miller approved the deployment - Pence is not in the chain of command.
Miller and @realDonaldTrump spoke multiple times this week about the mayor’s Guard request, says DOD Chief of Staff Kash Patel. POTUS conveyed that he should take “any necessary steps to support civilian law enforcement requests in securing the Capitol and federal buildings.”
The reason Miller spoke with Pence about the deployment was that the VP called, I’m told. He also talked with congressional leaders such as @senatemajldr and @SpeakerPelosi, per the DOD statement.
