I'm going to tell you a story about Henry Paulson: Henry Paulson Returns to Finance, to Run Climate-Focused Fund https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/06/business/dealbook/hank-paulson-climate-fund.html?smid=tw-share
I covered him when he worked for George W. Bush at Treasury. He rarely (maybe never) talked about global warming or climate change or his affiliation with the Nature Conservancy (he did sometimes talk about his love of birding).
When he left Treasury in 2009, a formal portrait was done and it was unveiled in 2010.
I wrote a story about the portrait, which was unusual both for its artistic nature and for the plaque that ran beneath it: "Paulson was a strong believer in the effect of global warming and advocated immediate action to decrease this effect.” https://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2010/09/08/paulsons-portrait-informal-like-his-management-style/
After the story ran, the plaque was removed and replaced with no mention of his advocacy of global warming. https://home.treasury.gov/about/history/prior-secretaries/henry-m-paulson-jr-2006-2009
So while I understand that people find it interesting to write about his commitment to social investing and climate change finance, I just think it's interesting that someone, somewhere decided that was too third rail to include in his official Treasury portrait. That's all.
