i don't have jokes for a lot of reasons right now so instead my mind is mostly just on the fact that these problems and threats have existed for decades but the 'resonable' solution has always been to prioritize not making anyone upset, instead of solving the problem
i say it again and again and again, because it remains true and it gets more true all the time, that one of the biggest things i took from learning about MLK post-high school shit wasn't just getting beyond the whitewashed shit but his definition of "negative peace"
that is, a peace defined by the absence of tension instead of the presence of justice
people are constantly looking for a way to solve a problem, but only if it doesn't upset people. if it doesn't inflame tensions. a way to resolve issues without conflict.

small things, big things, you have to have that conflict, you have to deal with that tension. if you prioritize avoiding the tension more than solving the issue, you will never solve the issue. frequently, it will get much worse.
