Demands for vaccinations galore - and understandably so.

A THREAD on some of the stark realities of limited supply from Ottawa.

First, some good news. 1/x #ableg
Alberta is leading in vaccinations - now over 30,000 Albertans have received a 1st dose. Thousands more every day.

Up 180% in 1 week.

Leading in doses per 100k population (save for small PEI).

Leading in % of supply used.

Who is in Phase 1A on rollout?

~23k healthcare workers (ICUs, etc.)
~36k long-term care workers
~28k long-term care residents (vulnerable seniors)

Around 87k ppl in total.

Keep in mind - TWO doses required. So ~175k doses in total needed for Phase 1A. 3/x #ableg
Yes, prioritization is difficult.

Medical experts decide, based on evidence - taking into account limited supply from the Govt of Canada.

Even if Alberta could vax 10k/day, we wouldn't have enough supply from Ottawa to vax everyone who is currently demanding. 5/x #ableg
