Fate - Saber (spoilers)
You should read the thread below 1st for her background

Saber from Zero to Stay Night (Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven's Feel) is probably one of the more unique characters in the medium, regardless of how many creators try to copy her face aesthetic. https://twitter.com/NicholasKatsik2/status/1346488009131225088
As we see in Zero, Saber tries to keep her values intact. She maintains a firm belief that her values will produce the desired outcome to save her people. Through her conversations with Gilgamesh and Alexander, we see the difference in the views their people had of them. Gil and-
-Xander were generally beloved, regardless of how ruthless because their values were easily understood by their people. They could sympathize with human desires. And we see in Babylonia that Gilgamesh was genuinely loved by his people. Arturia believed that if she obtained the g-
-rail, her goals would be achieved. She believed she could save her people. She truly did shine like a king, a perfect king, but a king that was so perfect it scared her people. At the end of Zero, she fails. Kiritsugu forces her to destroy the grail, which influences her person-
-ality in Stay Night. The once Naive king, betrayed once again by those close to her, becomes more ruthless in Stay Night. She's skeptical of betrayal and cold. Her interactions with Shirou genuinely soften her character as they both share similar values. Their lives being less i
mportant than the values they wish to honor. He shows her that while she may be a king, she's still human. She's a young girl, not even an adult yet. By the end of Fate route, she realizes that her goal was for nothing as the grail could not grant her wish. This is her 3rd failu-
-re now and the moment she realizes that her goal might not be obtainable. She accepts defeat. Accepts failure to reach her goals. Her arc compliments both Kiritsugu and Shirou's arc of the people you protect being more important than your ideals of the perfect person to protect-
-them. Arturia finally realizes that in the pursuit of your goals, you can lose sight of what you were protecting. She virtually destroyed what she wanted to protect in the pursuit to maintain the ideals that should protect it.
While many think this is the end of her character a-
-rc, I would disagree.
In Heaven's Feel we see Saber's change into Salter. Her alternate personality, possibly relieving the burden from herself onto a character whose ideals are that of the original king, but without the constraint of honor holding her back. She is willing to d-
-o anything to accomplish her goals in this form. Alas, she fails again. Her goals again clashed with those she cared about and she died another tragic death.
When the series is over, there is an additional scene called Last Episode, which is Saber once she escapes the hold of t-
-he endless loop known as the grail war. Escaping from this cycle of endless life and death, she is in Valhalla and finally sees Shirou. She gets to be the person that she never could be, a regular human girl with a smile that Shirou longed to see. The burden of kingship passed-
-and she was allowed to be herself without the facade of a stoic king holding her back.
I would genuinely say that Saber is one of the most tragic characters due to her consistenct cycle of failure and betrayal against her.
Those who respect her tend to be responsible for her de-
-ath.
I genuinely feel like her screams in Zero as she destroys the grail, her hopelessness at the end of Fate route, and her death at the end of Heaven's Feel by the person closest to her as she says "Shirou..." with soft eyes as she breaks free from Salter for a moment are some
of the most heavy moments that build up her tragic character. Definitely one of my favorite characters.

I do feel like I could have done better explaining some things in the thread but it's been like a year since I read Fate route and over 6 months since Zero so bear with me lol
