They did it. Trump supporters broke the police line and have rushed to the top of the steps. They’re shouting “USA!” and “four more years!” One man is shouting Q conspiracies into a megaphone. The police set off one stun grenade at first, but now seem to be letting them be. #DC

Trump supporters heckled and called on police to join their cause as officers in riot gear detained demonstrators who had breached the building. Arrests have been happening on and off all day here. The mayor’s curfew is in two hours. #DC
Just to be clear: These demonstrators got inside the building. They breached two police lines, dismantled metal barricades and got the doors to the US Capitol open. #DC
Police now using chemical irritants and stun grenades to push the crowd on the west side of the Capitol back down into the grass. The crowd has moved back and are chanting “traitor!” at the cops. This sign, flapping in the wind says, “we the people will bring #DC to its knees.”
Federal police pushing protesters back with batons & stun grenades chanting, “move back!” Some officers are flinging folding chairs left on the Capitol grounds as protesters retreat. The crowd is calling the cops traitors and yelling about curfew: “it’s only 5:30,” a lady yelled.
The crowd has dispersed some but plenty of folks are still milling around on the sidewalk outside the Capitol. Fifteen minutes till curfew. #DC – bei United States Capitol
Trump supporters earlier today told me they saw a woman rolled out on a stretcher after she had been shot inside the US Capitol. This was just after one of the early breaches where protesters ran into the doors on the east side. I could not confirm at the time, but here it is

Announcement from police just now: “A curfew is now in effect. All individuals must leave the US Capitol grounds or be subject to arrest.” #DC
DC police seem to be kettling some of the remaining Trump supporters near the reflecting pool by the Capitol. “They’re putting us in a pen — like animals!” a man was yelling. There are a lot of cops here now. Crowd still yelling, “traitors!” #DC
Every phone out here just started buzzing and chirping with this alert from the #DC mayor:
Police line has pushed a handful of lingering protesters by the Capitol now. Hearing from colleagues that arrests are underway, but I don’t have eyes on it from here. #DC
Just witnessed another arrest, though this crowd has thinned out substantially. We are nearing 3 hours post curfew now. The man who was arrested had a megaphone and had been berating the cops for hours. Didn’t get a photo but seemed he walked past the police line & got grabbed.
Police pulled back on the west side of the Capitol as a handful of Trump supporters linger and continue to heckle them and declare victory. Plenty of those who left did so promising, “we’ll be back!” #DC
I am home after a long and surreal day. This was the scene just before I left: National guardsmen unbuckling their helmets, resting their shields, a handful of protesters still taunting them.
