You know @GavinWilliamson you might want to reflect on the fact that teachers are professionals. We can spend 3 hours recapping prior learning, making links to new learning, discussing, exploring, drawing out opinions and misconceptions, singing and performing to hold attention. https://twitter.com/tes/status/1346819053730603010
We engage and enthuse, we provoke and stimulate. We teach the same thing a hundred different ways for those children who didn't get it the first time, or 2nd time or tenth time. Then when their face finally lights up because they UNDERSTAND it now and everyone shares the moment.
We hold them to account by asking them to explain their thinking and justify their answers. Then we model and scaffold and praise and cheer them on when they complete the task and prompt them to reach even higher That is teaching. Then when parents complain because their child
has raced through the online learning, in 20 minutes and completed it ALL but barely scratched the surface and won't retain a thing.... you tell them the right thing to do is complain to Ofsted?
How dare you. Just. How dare you?
