In 2007 Iraq veterans tried to march to the Capitol building to protest the war. Riot police instantly arrested anyone who tried to reach just the Capitol steps; about 100 veterans and 200 of their supporters
Around 200 vets & active duty marched in uniform at the front of the protest, with over 100k behind them. (That’s Eyes Left host @MikePrysner in the first tweet.)
Military families were also there in large numbers, also mass arrested, many of whom carried photos of their loved ones killed in Bush’s war. One was Carlos Arrendondo (later became famous as the hero of the Boston marathon bombing)
More photos from that day, Sept 15 2007 in front of the Capitol. Pepper spray, beatings, mass arrests defending the steps
