This is some chilling rhetoric from House Republicans. I’m hearing echoes of the kind of “lawfare” tactics behind the US-backed 2016-18 soft coup in Brazil and some other countries. Despite pundits’ assurances that the attempt will fail it’s been allowed to go pretty damn far.
Given that this is an outright coup attempt and that the President’s supporters are massed in DC it’s pretty troubling that we’re relying on a relatively thin vote margin to defeat it. What happens next time? What happens if Congress isn’t given the chance to vote? It’s possible.

If this coup attempt doesn’t significantly tarnish the Republican brand and deliver political consequences to those involved, we’re going to see this happening again in the near future, possibly with the support it needs to succeed. Have no illusions that we live in a democracy.

If this were leftists there’d already be bodies. No doubt in my mind they’d have slaughtered dozens before letting them take the Capitol.
The only good thing about this is that I don’t believe this coup has enough ruling class backing to succeed. The rich know they’ll do great under Biden. This is more a cult of personality thing than a genuine fascist uprising, but the difference is a little too small for comfort.
You know Trump is absolutely loving this too.
