When Australia won in India in 2004, Ponting played just one Test (the one that Australia lost). In his absence, Gilchrist lead the team and Australia won two Tests under him (and drawing the third). Here's hoping Rahane manages to mirror the tour of 2004. #AUSvIND
I have said it before, blaming series losses on missing big names is a lame excuse. If you are a strong cricket nation, you can't depend on one or two players. India winning at home in 2001 is another example. It all boils down to how well you play over 5 days.
And since we are talking of Ponting getting overshadowed by his deputy Gilly on an overseas tour. We should remember how no one questioned his position as the leader of the team on come back. Ponting like Kohli wasn't the greatest tactician but an inspirational leader.
