This is what we need. A plan with enhanced measures in schools.

In the Fall, there were fewer superspreader events in schools vs community/workplaces. Current prevention measures (student cohorting, distancing, masking, handwashing) will help to reduce spread but https://twitter.com/AmyGreerKalisz/status/1346819117639233538
with increased community prevalence, we should expect to see more importations (students/staff with unrecognized COVID19 entering the school environment).

This will, eventually, lead to class/cohort/school dismissals = disrupted virtual AND in-person learning
I won't argue against virtual learning as last resort. But non-essential businesses remain open.

Parents continue to work in at-risk settings (e.g. plants, warehouses) with little bandwidth (literally/figuratively)

(btw why offer free delivery tomorrow for non-essential goods?)
In-person learning is an essential service.

My lived experience is in acute care, also an essential service. We have escalated safety measures for caregivers, patients and staff minimize risk of infection spread.

Enhanced measures are key to protecting an essential service
Society values education as an essential service (hence, taxes).

Virtual learning is not a viable option for many families, and we're seeing widening educational inequality-

Until now, public health measures have helped to protect students and staff in the classroom. But in some regions #TestTraceIsolateSupport systems are overwhelmed, and it will be harder to determine and control spread in schools.
Closures are inequitable.

Virtual learning is inequitable.

Schools warrant enhanced safety measures - requires multisectoral input (labs, testing partners, PH, schools, MOE)

What we need to avoid the rollercoaster of virtual to in-person learning and back again to virtual:
1) Make decision about businesses for next few weeks (=true lockdown measures)

THEN decide about virtual vs in-person according to community (e.g. if no viable virtual learning option)

3) Support community to stick to these decisions in the most equitable way that we can manage
