Thread: Sorry to rant but over the past 48 hours i've seen multiple posts explaining that sunflower lanyards are a mask exemption lanyard that are handed out by Doctors and carers. These posts are normally followed by people giving a link to places to buy them & telling ppl to-
Buy them if they feel they should be exempt or don't want to wear a mask. THIS IS NOT TRUE!! Sunflower lanyards are to signifying that the person wearing it may have a hidden disability (Autism, Social anxiety etc) and to let people around them (co-workers, shop staff etc) know -
that the wearer may need a little more support or extra time to make decisions in a shop etc. I have worn one due to my social anxiety because I can trip over my words or be unable to talk when extremely anxious. Please spread it around as I am seeing more and more people in the
comment sections attacking people who wear them thinking that it's an anti-maskers lanyard or people taking the piss. If you see somebody wearing one it has NOTHING to do with anti maskers it's about disability and/or mental illness.
So please, if you do see someone wearing them DONT start moaning at them about anti maskers. That is the last thing any wearer of these needs right now. It's hard enough for people to shop let alone people with mental illnesses or mental illnesses during a lockdown. Thank you :)
