Everything you think you know about #LawSchool is wrong (a thread):
Briefing cases: This is mandatory at some schools, but not that many and not only is it time consuming, but really only helps you prepare for class. Protip: Westlaw and Lexis DO THIS FOR YOU. Don't waste time on this.
Class participation: As a 1L, everyone is terrified to be cold called and not prepared. The truth is IT DOES NOT MATTER. You might get yelled at, but hardly no professors give points for class participation, so don't be afraid to pass on a case.
Not using commercial outlines or hornbooks: Professors LOVE to threaten people that using these study aids will be detrimental. The truth is many of them crib exam answers from the fact patterns/hypos in these materials and they don't want you to know.
The pressure to "lock in" your bar prep price as a 1L: This is by far the biggest scam of law school. DO NOT fall for it. You can negotiate as good or better a deal in spring of your 3L year when the bar prep reps are desperate to make their numbers.
Advice to not join extracurricular activities: This is one of the dumbest pieces of advice. Student orgs have the best libraries of resources including study aids, high-quality course outlines, sample exams, not to mention the networking with2/3Ls who have great advice.
Avoiding going to professor office hours: People are scared to do this or don't think it is beneficial, but getting that time with your professor can set you up for success and help guide you on how to prepare for your finals.
Being a dick to your fellow classmates: This is by far the worst thing you can do. Your law school section will be some of your closest friends for the rest of your career and to show your ass as a 1L will brand you for life. Don't be a douche!
Abusing drugs & alcohol: There is a culture in law school that you have to get shitfaced or high af to deal with the pressure, but this sets you up for failure once you're in practice. Moderation in all things, folks.
Doping: Lots of people are in law school depending on Adderall when they don't have ADHD. The problem is that this is unsustainable and addictive. You can't dope your way through your entire legal career.
The best advice on how to survive law school comes from 2/3Ls--make friends with them NOW.
