Day 2
#90DaysOfProse @danielkhunter The benefits of walking

One of the easiest exercises that can be done almost everywhere and at any time.

You really don’t need equipment to do it. Yes, your shoes should be comfortable & you should be dressed to fit the weather.

It’s difficult to hurt yourself. There is a risk of straining your leg. There is always such a risk. But it is not likely that you exhaust yourself as you can do it while running or that you can suffer from micro-trauma.
(2/12)

You can get to know your neighbourhood better. I may be blessed to live in such a nice place, by the river, near the small artificial lake. But even when I was living in our capital city, I could always find nice or interesting places to wander around.
(3/12)

You can observe how everything around changes day by day. Every day, the same view can look differently depending on the time, weather or even clouds. That’s why I love taking pictures during my walks.
(4/12)

If you're walking alone, you can listen to an audiobook or podcast. At home, I can’t listen to anything for more than a few minutes. I’m not able to sit still & listen, so I’m trying to combine it with chores but then my family members want something from me.
(5/12)

Walks can be a great way to be alone. I love being on my own, not only b/c I can listen to something but also think. If I need to take an important decision, I go for a walk.
(6/12)

If I can’t find my MOJO, I go for a walk. I don’t know what to write about or what to paint, I go for a walk.
(7/12)

But if you feel that you don’t have enough time for your family, take your spouse, kids or parents for a walk. You can walk in silence or you can walk and talk about things you love. One of the best ways to meet each other better.
(8/12)
Those are my own reasons why walking is so good. But there is also a long list of how it influences our health. I love 2 of them the most:
(9/ 12)

Walking can delay the effects of ageing, lower dementia or Alzheimer's risk and allow us to live longer.
(10/ 12)

Quick walks relax the mind and improve memory. Walking involves the part of your brain that is responsible for verbal memory, learning and ability to think clearly.

Fancy a walk?
Tell me what walking's biggest advantage, in your opinion, is.
