#TimeManagement

I got asked this question quite too often and hence, I am jotting down some practices I follow on Time Management and how I land up reading books.

This is just a reference and my methods may / may not work for others.

Thread below

1/
1. Wake up early

Traditionally, I wake up quite early in the morning ~ 4:45 am or so. Most of my reading happens between 4.45 - 6:00 am.

Thanks to Covid LD, I sleep quite late and hence, I land up waking at 6. Still 6-7 is my new reading time

2. Plan the day

Usually before I hit the bed, I make a mental note of the day coming up, personally and professionally.

When there are far too many things, I jot down into a list which is visible to me in the morning when I resume

3/
3. Budget your day

I have clear timings for my personal work (house related work), pooja, profession, family commitments.. What's left out is my time which is usually spent on books, music, series etc.

I budget my day and week in advance.

4/
4. Automate as much as possible

Some of the payments happen through credit card. So I just need to check before the due date. SIP is definitely recommended, but it's personal choice

For others, I have a clear plan month on month as to which day which payment is due.

5. Plan the day - Work

Everyday I work, I write down what i plan to achieve, note what I did differently and what remained..

This practice has remained with me for last 20+ years.. Without a book, pens and pencils next to me, I feel disabled..

6. Review, Re-calibrate & Project

Both personal life and professional tasks, I try to review once weekly, recalibrate and project upcoming week. This helps me to be prepared in terms of potential bursts.

However, there are scenarios where best laid plans won't work

7/
7. Utilize travel time

Till Dec 2019, I had 4 hour travel time everyday in bus. I used to maximize this time

Till Dec 2019, I had 4 hour travel time everyday in bus. I used to maximize this time by reading, watching movies / series & catching up on sleep

8. Make Notes

Perhaps, the single most important part. When I read something interesting, I write it down in a book. When I want, I try to search / look it up.

Earlier I used to make pencil notes in book (similar to tech papers), but have stopped this habit

These are some general practices most would follow. I try utilize the available time and spend what's available on my passion.

LD has given me ample time due to WFH which I am thoroughly enjoying with my books / music.

Just a note on books:

- I don't prefer Audio Books
- I am now using Kindle due space constraints only
- All puranic books, I prefer to have a hard copy
- I don't like creases like folding the corner of the page - use bookmarks
- I underline / highlight - avoid writing thou

All of us are unique and I am sure there would be other methods which could be better effective..

We underestimate the value of writing .. its 10x effective than memorization..

If this triggers a thought, I will feel blessed
