We love that y’all love the unborn but we will not let y’all hate us.

- Black People
I must admit, I thought this tweet seemed simple. Is it pithy and lacking nuance? Absolutely but still simple. As in, easy enough to comprehend but as Twitter always does, it complicates the uncomplicated so here’s an explanation.
The tweet doesn’t intend to mean that being pro-life is the same as being racist. I’m not sure how people are reading that into my words but I will take ownership of how the lack of clarity can lead to a diversity of interpretation.
What it does mean is• 1: What I value (love) about many white evangelicals is there unabated commitment to the lives of the unborn. That is the heart of God, so to that, I say “Yes!” And “Amen”. Continue to speak up for those that can’t speak up for themselves. Please.
What it does mean is • 2: What I am grieved by and will not allow is the hatred, mistreatment, and dishonoring (systemically & interpersonally), of black people outside of the womb. And the way America is set up, our lives here don’t seem to matter as much once we’re born. 😔
I can see how my words were triggering to some, though it was not geared to all but only those who are unwilling to see that their love of the unborn doesn’t excuse them from their hatred of the living. And by hate I mean to not love, honor, protect, or value another.
With that said, Twitter is a strange place, one in which confusion and accusations thrive. It is far easier to believe the worst than to hope the best (love) but even then, I must be honest. And I will be. Thanks for coming to this Ted talk.
