The Appeal of Gintama, A Thread on Why I Love it So Much:

My vocabulary isn't the best but I'll try expressing what this series means to me and why is it such an amazing piece of fiction.

First of all, the comedy. I found it relatively quite funny tbh. I don't laugh much while watching something but Gintama made me chuckle many, many times. The first few episodes weren't as much funny, but the rest of the show maintains a high level of comedy all throughout.

Next, the characters. Gintama is known to have one of the best main casts in all of animanga. It definitely lives up to its name. The dynamics and themes of every character are just so beautiful. Everyone fits in just perfectly. Noone is even mid in this show.

Another aspect I adore is the oneshot semi comedic episodes. These were the ones that made me fall in love with this series. The writing and the emotional impact of this episodes are just incredible. These work wonders in making you more invested in the characters.

Every long-running series is incomplete without a well-written protagonist. Gintoki prooves this point well. His character maybe the best I've seen in all of anime I've watched. The pain he took over himself, and it constantly coming back in his life, breaks me.

Now comes the serious arcs. These completely shift the tone of the series. The drama and the tension created just for a few eps, is really amazing. The antagonists too, are top notch. Quite a lot of them come in my top 10 too. Especially the one eyed yakult-loving man.(GOAT)

Can't forget my favorite character ofcourse. This idiot terrorist man always amazes me everytime he appears. Never had more fun watching a character doing silly stuff all the time.

Gintama is a series, where you come for the serious arcs but stay for the characters and the comedic parts. It has been a wild ride for me, never thought this series would resonate so well for me. A golden experience in my life.

These were the main reasons I love this series. It's my Top 1, can't think of anything topping this anytime soon. I'll miss these guys a lot, that's for sure.
