On 30/12/2020 the EU signed an Investment Treaty with China. Despite the EU’s focus towards human rights this appeared to be a backwards step as it allows European manufactures to use the forced labour camps in China. From Jan 1st the UK properly left the EU… (thread)
A move done in the name of sovereignty. If the UK government and more importantly the @Conservatives want to show why we are different and better than the EU in respecting Human Rights then they would vote in favour of the Genocide Amendment to the UK trade bill…
The Genocide Amendment would allow the UK courts to deem if Genocide has happened in a foreign country and nullfy trade agreements with offending states.
If @BorisJohnson wants the UK to lead the world post-Brexit then he should lead his party to vote in favour of the Amendment.
@DominicRaab has previously expressed concern over CCP’s treatment of Hong Kong, surely he’d support this amendment as he’d understand CCP’s treatment towards Uyghurs…
@nadams has previously said the UK would lead globally in taking actions against China, we hope this means he will be voting in favour of this amendment...
Conservatives such as @TomTugendhat and @Nus_Ghani have openly expressed their disdain for the CCP’s treatment towards Uyghurs. We hope that they can commit to this and vote in favour of the Amendment and convince fellow Conservatives to do so…
@ScottBentonMP and @HenrySmithUK have also shown their concern to the forced labour camps and surely will be encouraging their fellow @Conservatives MPs to lead the country and the world in taking action against the CCP by voting for this amendment...
The Amendment is the perfect opportunity for the UK to diverge from the EU and for the @Conservatives to lead the country and the world in the fight against genocide.
