This whole “The first Black” bullshit has us all in a daze. Imagine being in the hold of a slave ship, then the colonizer comes and unchains you and says, “I choose you to be the first slave to drive the ship to the new world.”

And all the slaves still chained celebrate.

And some of them are celebrating because they’re hoping that you’re going to turn the ship around and unchain them. But, once you get to the top of the ship you realize there’s 30 guns pointed at your neck.

So, if you want to stay alive you’re going to drive that ship to the new world. And while you’re driving the ship to the new world all the slaves still chained are celebrating because they imagine your new placement on the ship as hope and possibility for their freedom.

But, you know that’s not the case. Because you’re helming the ship. And you know where it’s taking them and where it’s taking you. But you continue to deny this because driving the ship is better than being chained in the hold. It’s better than waddling in feces and death.

So, vulnerable people celebrate your come up at their own demise. This is what it means to be “The first Black” anything in America. It’s to be the first Black person to drive the slave ship! It’s to have the power to sustain Black Death!

And it will remain this way until anti-Blackness is not more. Insufferable!
