Indebted to @AllyFogg for pointing out that Dr Stock claims there are things that ALL women agree are deleterious to women, like breath play - but I know lesbians who do breath play, because they enjoy it. I know women who diet because they like being thin. https://twitter.com/AllyFogg/status/1346573918006632448
Assuming they aren't at risk of death, is that harmful to them? And FGM is largely carried out by, and perpetuated by women. They would probably argue that it is a 'woman's culture' of the type Dr Stock says comprises femininity. Ditto women who use drugs/alcohol (inc tobacco)
Many might qualify for Dr Stock's definition of addiction, but they are quite happy with their drug use, I'd say I'm addicted to caffeine, I can't cope without it daily. And many 'feminists' take the view sex work is intrinsically harmful and wish to abolish it.
Under Dr Stock's 'wellbeing' model, we still have one set of women (with access to power) deciding what is good for another set of women (usually marginalised women). They don't get invited to speak by think tanks, they don't get listened to much at all.
Without intersectional feminism, these power differentials are ignored. The only sensible goal of feminism is to free women from gendered expectations by permitting them the maximum liberty/bodily autonomy and to aim for greater equality throughout society as a whole.
Feminism that aims for 'equality with men' is clearly nonsensical. Men aren't equal with each other. But a feminism that simply involves deciding what is good for women sounds an awful lot like patriarchy, with powerful women absorbed into the patriarchy.
As in reality they always have been, women have always wielded borrowed power (do I have to cite Handmaid's tale again?). Clearly individual liberty has to be constrained when it causes harm to others, it's fine to get drunk, it's your liver, it's not fine to drive home.
But deciding these checks and balances is the job of the state, hopefully in a democracy. What feminism shouldn't be doing is dictating how women should live because someone else thinks it's good for them.
