How long has it been since the American guys won gold at the World Juniors?

Exactly this long.

Cool hockey story: back in 2013, a trans hockey player named Jesse Thompson took a complaint to the Human Rights Tribunal after being asked to change in the girls locker room...
In settling the case, the Ontario Hockey Federation was ordered to put all adult volunteers through a training course to help them better understand gender diversity and create safer spaces for kids...
I was an adult volunteer.

The course *really* spoke to me. I took screen caps...
This was the first meaningful education or training I’d ever gotten about this stuff. Ignorance helped me repress.

By the time that season was over, I was ready to accept that I wasn’t cis.

So yeah, thanks hockey. And thanks Jesse. Y’all probably saved my life.

I was 39 when my shell began to break. I socially transitioned at 41.

It’s not too late. You could probably do this too, if you wanted.

You’d probably struggle some. You might experience some losses and some grief. You might feel stuck. I do. Constantly...
But you could just keep putting one foot in front of the other and, in the amount of time it takes a pretty good hockey program to win 2 gold medals, you could make a whole lot of progress towards becoming the very best version of yourself.
