On election night in November, I predicted pretty confidently that the GOP would hold the Senate by winning the Georgia runoffs. I did not anticipate that Trump & huge segments of the GOP would then commit public suicide by claiming fraud and trying to overturn the outcome.
So naturally lots of liberals are coming to 'dunk' on me for those old tweets where I said "yeah, the GOP is obviously going to hold on in January," as if I could have anticipated Lin Wood, Sidney Powell, and Josh Hawley. Perhaps the argument is that I should have.
It was a given that Trump was never going to go gracefully into that good night. That was easy to foresee. But the absolute depths to which he sank on his way out...if you want to pat yourself on the back and claim you foresaw ALL of this exactly as it happened, go for it.
All I know about is that the GOP richly deserved their losses tonight, and I don't feel particularly bad about them at this point. Will I regret what a Dem senate gets up to? Most likely. But the GOP has forfeited its legitimacy for now.
