[THREAD] Tieedi Women's Football Club - A new hope for women's football in India

Darjeeling-Kurseong-Kalimpong region of West Bengal has always loved their football. But it was only in December 2020 they organised their first-ever women's football tournament. #IndianFootball
The Darjeeling Police team were easily the best side in the tournament but the organisers saw plenty of potential in other teams as well. So they got the best of the rest to form Tieedi FC with an aim to provide a platform for these girls to showcase their talents.
The team, under the guidance of former East Bengal / Tollygunge player Jiten Rai, is currently practising (and boarding) at two schools based in Kurseong. Today (06/01), they will play their first official match as a team in a tournament organised by the Darjeeling Police
The founder of the team, Utsow Pradhan, says it is still early days for the team but there are plenty of positives. From free accommodation and training facilities to monetary donations, the team has already become a favourite for the locals. The girls are loving the chance too
They certainly hope to continue providing these facilities for the girls but that will depend on their success on the pitch and the club's ability to get sponsorships. But Pradhan is confident of making the team a success.
Tieedi WFC has everything required to become a successful football unit. Whether that potential will turn into reality remains to be seen. But for today, the focus is all about impressing on the field!
