What you are seeing here are the vestiges of slavery & Reconstruction.

The Blue belt from Augusta to Columbus is aka the Black belt, where most of the states cotton was raised. Those countries still have high % of AA, & now Latino ag workers. /1
Atlanta became the center of Black commerce during Reconstruction when the capital shifted there (due to RR lines & the fact that Milledgeville refused to rent rooms to Black politicians).

The coast is old rice coast, high % Black, Gullah/Geechee. /2
North GA is Appalachia & foothills, v heavily white & now pretty much de-industrialized cotton and carpet mills.

Far south is piney woods, not great farming soil, very poor area, huge landowners (timber) and primarily white. /Fin
