I have been playing dynasty for 3 years now and my go to place for research is @DLFootball. One of my favorite new tools is their Air Yards app, based off of the amazing work of @friscojosh. Let me take you down the rabbit hole I went on.
I found the most interesting column, WOPR or weighted opportunity. It is a combination of target market share and air yards market share. A quick Google search will explain it more. After sorting high to low I saw a lot of the same names at the top...
I calculated the average of the top 12 WRs for the past 5 years (16-20). Then took the average of those and got 67.93. So roughly to be a top 6 WR in WOPR you need at least 27.5% Tgt MS and 37.5% AY MS. There have been 24 WR seasons to hit that mark since 16.
Those 24 WR seasons were accomplished only 14 WRs, with 6 doing it multiple times. The prototypical WR is 6'2", 211lbs, BMI of 27.4, 40yd dash of 4.50, BOA of 19.6, dominated in college and was a round 1 or 2 draft pick.
The WRs to do it once are: ARob, Antonio, Sutton, Dez, Josh Gordon, Evans, T.Y. and McLaurin. This group has more of the outliers, lower weight and later draft capital. Still, lots of very successful names here.
The 6 who have done it multiple times are AJG, Adams, Nuk, Julio, MT and OBJ. Absolutely no surprises here. The really only significant difference in this group is lots of early round one draft capital. These guys are your studs.
A few of the 2020 rookie WRs, IMO, can make this list. Using @DaltonGuruFF YPT minimum of 8.0, with 60 targets minimum, your best bets are Jefferson, Higgins and Gabe Davis. All 3 fit you prototypical WR stats and had successful rookie seaso
