A lot of these “stop normalizing this” posts are annoying because there are actually really few people doing that and implies that people with disabilities should be looked down upon if it looks like they’re choosing it when in reality, ableism frames it as a choice.
You’re literally just normalizing ableism against people with invisible disabilities.
It’s so annoyed because there’s always this idea that people are doing it to be cool instead of it being something they actually struggle with. This rhetoric is so violent to disabled people. It gets us attacked.
It’s part of the reason why I’m afraid to use my eyes when I can in public because somebody might think I’m faking being blind just because I have residual vision. It also gets ambulatory wheelchair users attacked.
I’m quite literally sick and very tired of this.
As a trans person it also reeks because transphobes just think our identities are us just trying to be cool and quirky.
If you find yourself talking about how people are doing something non normative to be cool and quirky, you should probably just stop talking.
