So today on my ride into work there was a small section of the bike path that was iced hard and chunky so I pulled on the road for those 2 blocks.
A man in a white pick up truck passed me very closely yelling at me. I yelled back. Likely something not very polite I will admit.
He then stopped in the middle of the road. Exited his vehicle and screamed at me for a good period of time. He drove up stopped again at the spot where I was trying to turn back on to the bike path and screamed again about how it was fine and HIS tax are paid for it.
And that I should get the f*$k out of the way and use it. I am afraid I lost my cool at that point and called him several names as well as questioning who actually paid more taxes based on his intellect and dress.
He was again out of his truck screaming and I thought he was going to physically attack me. But when I dropped my bike and squared up he got in the truck and drove away continuing to scream obscenities at me.
I got to work with my heart pounding and hand shaking and questioned whether I shod ride home or tomorrow.
There are several points here.
First I am not proud of how I escalated the situation or invoke class to disparage this man.
Second, what type of entitlement blocks logic so much a person stops their vehicle in the road to complain about blocking traffic? This doesn't even go to the logic around HIS taxes.
Last I would like to point out the regular bullying and abuse cyclist have to deal with in this city.
I hear a lot of snowflakes talk about a war on cars. My experience is that war is already underway and it is not on cars.
Stay safe out there.
And don't be an idiot like me and exasperate the situation.
