So very interesting. After implementing a de-escalation program, Newark cops didn’t fire a single shot last year. The state is also another data point for the thread below. As with Houston, Milwaukee, NYC, Indianapolis, and elsewhere, the murder spike in New Jersey can’t be blamed on the protests, “de-funding,” or the Ferguson Effect. Why not? Because . . .

. . . in Paterson, murders reached a 30-year high in 2020. Arrests and gun confiscations in that city were *up* over 2019.
2020 was an incredibly aberrant year. We’ll likely see a substantial overall increase in homicides. Be wary of attempts to blame it on reform or protest.
